“Dental implants”. For many people, these two words evoke the snapping of rubber gloves as a surgeon reveals anxiety-inducing medical apparatus.
The idea of getting dental implants is frightening for many people, but it need not be. A proper understanding of the procedures involved will help to dispel some of the anxiety around dental implant surgery.
So, what exactly does dental implantation involve?
Dental implantation is the permanent replacement of missing teeth or teeth that are too damaged to be repaired using traditional dentistry. Implantations range from single-tooth replacements to complete upper and lower arch teeth replacement. At Wisdom, the surgery is completed by removing the damaged tooth and replacing it with a prosthetic screw and crown. The surgery can be performed under local or general anaesthesia or IV sedation sleep dentistry. Using sleep dentistry practices, Wisdom Dental Emergency makes dental implant surgery safe, gentle and painless.
How do dental implants work?
The screw holds the crown in place just like the roots of a normal tooth naturally hold the tooth in place. Once the screw is in place in the gums, it should integrate with the gum and act just as the tooth’s roots normally would. After the surgery, a treatment plan will be determined by your dental implants professional.
What happens if it doesn’t integrate?
In very rare cases, the implant can fail to integrate. This does not mean that the tooth cannot be saved. If this happens, Wisdom Dental Emergency replaces the implant in a second round of surgery that comes at no charge to the patient.
